Using hashtags in your social media marketing campaigns is a great way to generate interest, engagement and exposure for your business.
Here is a look back at two campaigns that rocked it with #hashtags this past summer.
1. Take a look at how Red Box got their fans to share their favorite ways to watch Red Box movies using the hashtag #HowDoYouRedbox.
Here is the message they are putting out across their social platforms,” #HowDoYouRedbox? Show us on @instagram, and we might feature you.”
They had some really cute entries. Take a look!

They also received some not so fun photos expressing frustration with Red Box’s that were not working correctly. This provides some really great feedback to the company and gives them an opportunity to address the issues and make it right with the unhappy customers. “Sad night, #howdoyouredbox WE DON’T because they’re not in service.”
#2 Is The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge.
They had people submitting and tweeting videos from all over the country. The hashtags they asked everyone to use where #icebucketchallenge, #alsicebucketchallenge and #strikeoutals. This campaign not only went viral but it brought in over $115 million dollars in donations! That’s a successful campaign.
Here’s a fun compilation video of some of the submissions. Take a look.
When planning your next campaign ask yourself what hashtags could you use? Make it catchy but relevant. Be sure to let your audience know on your landing page, website and through social media what your campaign is about, how they learn more, and how they can follow or submit content using your specified hashtag. Good luck!
