How Social Media Can Work Wonders When it Comes to Wedding Planning

Share

Consider this — a full 93% of brides use the Internet to plan their wedding. Sure, search engines and wedding blogs can be helpful for discovering wedding planning tips, but more brides are going the social media route.

Social media can be a pretty powerful asset for all aspects of your wedding — planning, communicating with guests, recording the day of, and even posting photos during the honeymoon. Since most brides plan their weddings for seven to 12 months on average, here are some ways social media can help your wedding go off without a hitch.

Use secret Pinterest boards for your bridal party

It can be hard to get your entire bridal party together for planning things like dresses, accessories, and floral arrangements, especially if some of them live far away. So set up a secret Pinterest board — a board that only your wedding party can see — and everyone can put forth ideas of what they like.

Keep your posts a little bit mysterious

It is easy to overshare on social media, but you need to consider exactly what you are sharing and how it can come across to those who aren’t invited. This is a hard line to draw, as the minute you share your engagement, everyone who sees it may assume they are invited. Keep the exact details of your event a mystery; you don’t want your wedding stress compounded by hurt feelings.

Recommendations come in the most unique of places

You are probably connected to tons of people on your social media platforms that you haven’t talked to in a while. You never know if they could have a recommendation for the perfect cake, photographer, or DJ. Asking for referrals on a public forum could be a great idea, as long as you don’t make any concrete promises. Also, utilize the infamous hashtag on Twitter and Instagram to see different options available in your local area that you may not have discovered otherwise.

Decide on a social media rule for the wedding day, and make sure all the guests know

While a wedding hashtag can be one of the best ways to see different pictures of your wedding guests having a good time, it can ruin the moment if you wanted to be the first to share pictures. If you don’t want to be connected during the ceremony, don’t be afraid to share your wishes loud and clear. Go one extra step and have your bridal party enforce it if they see people posting selfies when they shouldn’t.

Set up an event page

This is especially helpful if you have a lot of guests coming in from out of town. Many couples put together a packet for out of town guests that includes info on accommodations, transportation, local restaurants and attractions, and rehearsal dinner details. In 2017, it’s time for this information to go digital.

With these five social media tips in mind, planning your wedding couldn’t be easier. Use social media to your advantage and get prepared to have the wedding of your dreams!
