Facebook Live Streaming Could Give You The Marketing Edge You’ve Been Waiting For.
Live streaming isn’t new. It’s been around awhile. Last year we covered Periscope, Meerkat and Blab. At the end of the year Live streaming directly to Facebook profile pages was made available. We talked about it here. Now you can stream right to your Facebook Fan/Business pages.
Facebook has given Live streaming top priority. People are seeing a huge increase in their viewer numbers. This past week Facebook live even rolled out for groups and events.
“Going live on Facebook feels special because you are going live with the people you care about. Today we’re rolling out the ability to go live in Facebook Groups and Facebook Events. Live in Groups allows you to broadcast to just the people in the Facebook Group – so you can go live in your family group, or share a workout plan in a fitness group. Live in Events means you can go live from a birthday party to allow those that can’t make it to join the fun, and a performer can go live backstage to the people who’ve RSVP-ed to the event to give them a sneak peak. You can even use Events to schedule a live Q&A session. We hope this new ability to both broadcast and watch live video within Groups and Events enables people to connect more deeply with their closest friends, family and the communities of people who share their interests.” ~ Facebook
Here’s a recap of what to do with Facebook Live and how to use it.
#1. Broadcast live with the Facebook mentions app. It’s available on IOS and Android but is working a 100 times better on IOS. It’s still glitchy for me on Android. Because of the way the Facebook algorithm is set up and the priority they are giving live streaming right now you can reach a massive audience! Your stream is live so there’s no editing. You have to make things work on the fly. After your done streaming your stream is populated onto your page like a video. When you live stream Facebook immediately bumps your stream into the feed of your followers. Your followers can even subscribe to make sure they get a notification for your future streams. Your recorded video stream can be seen over and over again and can even be used when running an ad.
#2. Add a descriptive title to catch your subscribers eye.
#3. Use a call to action inviting your fans to click on the subscribe button, click the link in the description field to download your free gift, etc.
#4. During your stream say hello to the people who join your stream and be sure to look for any questions being posted on the comment stream.
#5. Plan your broadcast ahead of time. Have a pad of paper and pen nearby with a checklist of what you plan on speaking about. Keep it short. Facebook recommends between 5 and 20 minutes. Your viewers time is valuable. Let your viewers know right away what you’ll be streaming about and about how long it will take. Experiment with the time to see what’s comfortable for you and your viewers.
#6. Before ending your stream do a short recap of what you covered and mention your call to action one more time.
#7. After your stream edit your video. Choose your video category, thumbnail and call to action. If you invited them to download a freebie, use the “download” call to action. If you invited them to a webinar use the “watch video” call to action. If you are sending them to a new blog post use the “learn more” call to action. Have the call to action button match what you are asking them to do.
#8. If your stream was a really good informative stream consider gaining even more visibility by promoting it with the ads manager. This is only available when streaming to a page, not your personal profile.
#9. Repurpose your video by adding to a blog post, sharing on social media or in your newsletter.
“The reason to embed your video is to get more views. It will show up on your Facebook view count and you may also get new fans and subscribers.” ~ Mari Smith
Live streaming is here to stay. Like it or not we all have to be willing to get behind the camera to grow our businesses and make that personal connection.
